FI0051 A GEORGIAN / EARLY VICTORIAN CAST IRON HOBGRATE FIRE INSERT

SOLD

Code: FI0051

Dimensions:

W: 71cm (28")H: 91.5cm (36")

A very pretty, highly decorative, original Georgian / early Victorian cast iron hob grate fire insert. The fire has an arched opening and built in grate for burning. The fire has beautiful decorative features, with twisting detail around the fire opening, running down the legs, on the concrete fire back and below the front bars. The twists have acanthus leaves within them and there are decorative leaves at the top of the arch and under the front bars. The fire has the traditional warming plates on either side of the grill. The iron has been blacked and polished. The fire has a kite registration mark on the back of the top plate but it is now unreadable, however we can date the fire to pre 1884 when the dating system changed. The hob grate is of an ideal size for a living or dining room or could be used for decorative purposes in a bedroom. The fire is in good antique condition, with some signs of use, wear and slight damage, as expected. The fire has some casting marks, scratches and wear. There is a crack to the metal fire back just above the grate. The back of the fire has surface rust, as expected. The fire has a stunning appearance and would make a wonderful statement within a period home. The hob grate is a fine antique fire and the intricate design and its good size makes it a very desirable item.
