A pretty, mid Victorian, cast iron fire insert and reclaimed partially painted pine fire surround. The fire has a lovely, traditional, period appearance with an arched fire opening that has a rope style border. The top plate has a flower design and there is decorative detailing on either side of the original, curved, front bars. The iron has been blacked and polished and has a fantastic finish. The fire has a kite dating mark and the letters I and U tell us that the fire insert was made in July 1874. The fire is paired with a simple and classic style pine surround that has been painted white and with the mantel top left as bare wood. The fire is of the perfect size for decorative use in a bedroom or for a smaller reception room. The fire and surround are in good reclaimed condition with some signs of use and some slight damage, as expected of antique items. The back of the fire insert has some surface rust. The front of the fire has some light scratches, pitting and marks and there is some light tarnish to the grill. The fire surround has some knocks, small holes and chips. There is some chipping and flaking to the paint and it will need stripping and re-painting. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire has a good design that would suit both period and modern properties and it would add charm to a hearth.
