FC0125 PRETTY & DECORATIVE VICTORIAN CAST IRON COMBINATION FIRE

SOLD

Code: FC0125

Dimensions:

W: 99cm (39")H: 102.5cm (40.4")

A highly decorative, reclaimed, Victorian cast iron combination fire. The fire, made by the Etna foundry, has a beautiful appearance with heavily decorated border around the fire opening, featuring flowers within scrolling detail. The crossbar has a central motif with an urn full of flowers and the concrete back has pretty detailing. The fire retains its original, shaped, front bars and ash pan cover with small flower handle. The fire is of a good size for a living room or larger bedroom. The fire has a kite dating mark and although it is unreadable we can date the fire to pre 1884 when the dating system changed. The iron has been blacked and polished and has a fantastic finish. The fire has four fixing lugs for attaching the fire to the wall but one is a replacement. The fire is in good reclaimed condition but has some small signs of use and slight damage. The bottom left hand fixing lug has broken off and a replacement metal lug has been added. The back has some surface rust. The front of the fire has some light scratches, pitting and casting marks and there is some light tarnish to the grill. The concrete fire back has some small chips. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire has a beautiful appearance that would add period charm to any home and is a fine example of the cast iron fires of the era.
