A very beautiful and unusual, hand carved, stone door surround that is also ideal for surrounding a fire. The surround is very well constructed, is thick and heavy, and has several separate pieces that form a fantastic feature. The main arched top is finely carved with intricate flower and leaf designs. Below the main arch are two deep column tops and below this two further decorative sections. The stone is pale in colour but has been painted white at some stage. The surround is in good solid and useable condition with some damage from use and signs of age, as expected of stone antiques. There are knocks and chips to the stone, especially to the sides and back edges. There is some residue filler attached to some edges. The central motif has a large chip under the flower design and there are further knocks to the columns. There are some scratches and marks and the stone has been painted. The paint is now flaking, cracking and peeling and has some stains and discolouration. Please see pictures for details. The surround is truly striking and has an abundance of period character. The surround would be perfect for framing the door of a period home once more or would be a showpiece within the home, if fitted as a fire surround. A very desireable and decorative feature.
