FS0165 A RECLAIMED LATE VICTORIAN LARGE PAINTED SLATE FIRE SURROUND

SOLD

Code: FS0165

A very elegant, reclaimed, late Victorian slate fire surround. The fire surround is well made and is very heavy. The surround has traditional detailing with an arched fire opening, centre keystone and scrolling corbels with shell design. The slate legs and centre pieces have intricate painted marbling, created to make the surround look like a marble fire. The painted marbling could be removed by purchaser, perhaps using meths, if preferred and the slate could be polished or oiled to take it back to a black slate finish. The fire surround is complete but many of the parts are not attached. We have taken a photo to show the components separated to illustrate what will need attaching together upon fitting of the surround. The fire surround is in good reclaimed condition with some signs of wear, as expected of antique items. The slate has been painted. There are some knocks, chips and indentations. Some of the previous fixing concrete is attached to the surround and some concrete is breaking away. The slate has some scratches and marks and there is a line at the back of the mantel from where it was previously fitted. Please see pictures for condition details. PLEASE NOTE: The fire surround is strictly COLLECTION ONLY and is extremely heavy. You would need a suitable vehicle and more than one person for collection. Please contact us if you require any further information. The fire surround is a lovely example of Victorian design and will make a great statement piece in a home or business.
