FC0135 RECLAIMED VICTORIAN CAST IRON FIRE INSERT & PINE SURROUND

SOLD

Code: FC0135

A very elegant, reclaimed, Victorian cast iron fire insert paired with a reclaimed painted pine fire surround. The iron insert has a nice design, in the traditional Victorian style, with an arched fire opening surrounded by decorative borders. The fire has its original front bars and pretty top plate with fleur-de-lys style motif. The iron has been blacked and polished and has a good finish. The fire insert has the model name on the back "The Albion" and a kite dating mark, dating the fire to 1869. The fire insert is paired with a reclaimed painted pine surround with a simple corbel design. The surround does have some chips, stains and flaking to the paint and it will need sanding and re-finishing by purchaser to suit. The fire is in good reclaimed condition but the iron insert does have some signs of restoration and there is some damage to the surround. The back of the fire has a metal plate attached to repair some damage to one side of the fire. The repair is of a high standard and although it is slightly visible from the front face it would mainly be covered by the surround. The right hand corner of the fire has a small break. The fire brick has some slight chipping. There are some small scratches and marks to the iron. The back of the insert has surface rust, as expected. The surround has some holes, knocks and damage. There are some splits in the wood and rough edges.  Please see pictures for condition details. The fire has a lovely period appearance and the insert is a very nice example of Victorian design.
