M1551 AN ORIGINAL ANTIQUE OAK CHEST / DOWRY CHEST / BLANKET BOX

An original, antique, oak chest / dowry chest ideal for storage or for use as a blanket box. The oak chest has a lovely traditional, rustic, appearance showing much antique character. The chest is of a good size and the lid is easily opened with the heavy hinges free moving. The oak has a fantastic grain and it has been waxed and polished giving the chest a rich colour. The chest has a recessed panel design with carved detailing in-between each. The front of the chest has a metal key plate but there is no longer a key or lock. The chest has considerable age and therefore shows signs of wear and use, as expected. The lid has some cracks, both inside and out, but it is stable. There are knocks, scratches and small holes and one panel has a thin surface split. There are some knocks to the inner edges. There is some slight damage to two of the legs. There are some small patch repairs and infills. The hinges have some surface rust. There are some grazes and knocks to the oak. There are some small treated woodworm holes. The inside and outside of the box has some slight colour variation. Please see pictures for condition details. The chest has great antique charm and character and would make a fantastic blanket or storage box.
