FS0166 A DECORATIVE RECLAIMED EDWARDIAN CAST IRON FIRE SURROUND

SOLD

Code: FS0166

Dimensions:

W: 113cm (44.5")H: 125cm (49.2")

A very elegant, reclaimed, Edwardian cast iron fire surround. The surround is likely to date to C.1900 and has an Adam style design, typical of the era. The fire surround has a large urn with swags and bows in the centre of the cross bar and there is a flower design on each end. The base of the legs have decorative detailing. The cast iron has been blacked and polished and it has a nice finish. There are four fixing lugs, one on each leg and one on each side under the mantel. Please note that one of the top fixing lugs is a metal replacement as the original was broken. The surround is of a good size for a living or dining room and is ideal for pairing with a cast iron fire basket or perhaps for surrounding a wood burner. The fire surround is in good antique condition with some small signs of use and age, as expected. The iron has some small casting marks, pitting and scratches. The mantel has some circular indentations. The back has surface rust, as expected. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire surround has a very attractive and classic period look that would be perfect for adding character to a fire place.
