A very ornate, reclaimed, original Victorian cast iron tiled combination fire. The fire has a very attractive Adam style design, typical of the era, with swags, urns and scrolls along the cross bar. A real feature of the fire is the decorative domed smoke hood with urn motif below. There is a simple border around the fire opening. The mantel has dentil mouldings. The fire retains its decorative front bars. There are two lugs under the mantel for fixing the fire to the wall. On each side of the fire opening there are 3 large tiles with pretty leaf designs in delicate colours and 4 half tiles in green and brown with a textured design. The fire is of a large size and is very heavy, ideal for a living or dining room. The iron has been blacked and polished and has a fantastic finish. The back of the fire has a registered design number. The first number is faint but we believe it is RD 288113, dating the fire to 1896. The fire is in good reclaimed condition but has some signs of use and some slight damage, as expected of antique items. The back has some surface rust. The front of the fire has some light scratches and marks and there is some light tarnish and surface rust to the grill and to the top of the smoke hood. The concrete fire back has a large crack across it but it is stable. There is an indentation on the top of the mantel. The tile enamel has crazing, some visible tile grout or glue and some smoke marks and residue that may improve with further cleaning. There are some small knocks and chips to the edges of the tiles. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire illustrates fantastic Victorian, Adam style, design and would be perfect for adding character and charm to a home.
