M1557 SET OF 10 RECLAIMED ANTIQUE VICTORIAN FIRE TILES

A set of very pretty, reclaimed, original Victorian fire tiles. The set comprises of 10 square tiles with a very ornate design featuring brightly coloured flowers and leaves. The corners and edges of each tile have designs that fit with the other tiles to create triangular or diamond and circular patterns with scrolls in brown and yellow borders. The tiles are designed to sit on either side of a cast iron tiled fire, 5 on each side, but could be used for other interior design projects. Most of the tiles have a registered design number stamped on the back, RD93810, dating the tiles to 1888. The tiles are useable but have sustained some damage, that has been well repaired, and have some signs of age, as expected of reclaimed antiques.The tiles have had some large breaks and cracks that have been well repaired. The cracks are visible. There is some crazing to the tile enamel and some chips and knocks to the edges and corners. There are some areas of fading and chips to the paint. There are two tiles with larger knocks to a corner. There are some smoke residue marks that should improve with further cleaning. There is some staining to the tile backs.  Please see pictures for condition details. The tiles have a very nice appearance and most of the paint is clear and bright. The tiles are a lovely example of Victorian design and would be perfect for adding character to a cast iron tiled fire or to add character and charm to a home.
