FS0186 A LARGE RECLAIMED DECORATIVE VICTORIAN CAST IRON FIRE SURROUND

A very elegant, reclaimed, late Victorian cast iron fire surround. The surround is of a large size and has a very ornate design with detailing typical of the era. The crossbar has a central panel with an oval medallion and scrolling acanthus leaves. The ends of the crossbar are delicately shaped and have further scrolling leaves. The fire opening has a thick rope style border around it and a thinner border near the outer edges. The iron has been blacked and polished and the surround has a good colour. The back of the surround has a design number, 1826, and a registered design number, RD308647, dating the surround to 1897. The fire surround is of a large size, ideal for a living or dining room and it could be used to surround a wood burner or fire basket or used for decorative purposes. The surround is in good reclaimed condition with some small signs of age and wear. The fire surround has some small knocks and scratches from use. There are some visible casting marks and pitting and some less smooth areas to the finish on the crossbar. The back has surface rust, as expected. Please see pictures for condition details. The surround is a very fine example of Victorian design and craftsmanship and it would be a stunning period item for a home.
