An elegant and petite ducks nest cast iron hob grate fire basket, likely to date to the late Georgian or early Victorian era. The hob grate has a pretty design with delicate swags, wheat sheaves and birds. Each leg has two decorative strips and the top of the fire has a thick rope border. The grill has a lovely "ducks nest" shape and there is an integrated back plate and curved front bars. The sides are open and the hob grate has small feet at the back. The cast iron has been blacked and polished and the hob grate has a good finish. The hob grate is a reclaimed antique and has some small signs of use and age, as expected. There are some casting marks and scratches to the front face of the hob grate. There is a very small break near a front bolt within the grill. Some of the securing screws do not sit completely flush and a small screw head at the front is worn leaving a small indentation. The back has surface rust. Please see pictures for condition details. The hob grate is a very nice period item and is a lovely example of the designs of the late Georgian / early Victorian era. The hob grate is useable or could be used for decorative purposes and it would add great character to a fireplace.
