A reclaimed, decorative, hand carved pine fire surround dating to the late Victorian period, C.1900. The surround has a very attractive appearance, typical of the era, with a large Adam style urn and swags. The top of each leg has urns and there are ridged designs along the cross bar. The mantel has dentil mouldings and a cut out design. The legs each have flowers and leaves. The pine has had a waxed finish at some point and the wood has a nice colour that highlights the natural wood grain. The fire surround could be paired with a cast iron insert or fire basket or used for decorative purposes. The surround is in solid condition with some signs of its considerable age. The surround has some thin surface splits and cracks that do not affect the surrounds strength. The pine has some small knocks and chips. The back of the mantel has some knocks and damage. There are some scratches and marks and slight discolouration. The back edge of the right leg, at the top, has a crack. There are some knocks, splits and some nails in the feet. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire surround has a very ornate look and is ideal for a period home and would make a fantastic addition to a fireplace.
