A very large and decorative, reclaimed, antique oak fire surround dating to the early 20th Century. The fire surround is very heavy, made using quality oak and has a very grand appearance with large corbels on each end under the mantel and in the centre. The crossbar has decorative carved detailing and there is dentil moulding around the mantel edges. The legs of the surround have egg and dart detail under the corbels and thin panels. The fire has plain side pieces on each outer side of the decorative legs, that sit back from the main body of the fire, with a thinner mantel. Purchaser could cut these sides to reduce the width of the fire if desired, measurements with and without the side pieces are listed below. The pine has been painted white but has some chips and cracking and the surround could be sanded and re-finished by purchaser if desired. The surround is of the perfect size for a large living or dining room and would look fantastic paired with a cast iron fire insert or fire basket. The surround is in good solid condition with some signs of wear and age, as expected of reclaimed antiques. The paint has some chips and cracks. The side sections have some holes left from where the fire was attached to a wall. A piece of dentil border has broken away from the fire and has been nailed back in place. The back edges of the fire have some splinters and the inside edges of the legs have some small cut outs from where it was previously fitted. Please see pictures for condition details.
