A fantastic, very large, reclaimed antique painted cast iron fire surround dating to the Edwardian period. The fire surround is of a rare and impressive size, ideal for a larger reception room and could be paired with a large fire basket or with a wood burner. The surround has a lovely design, typical of the era, with the crossbar featuring Adam style bluebell swags and medallions with flowers. The legs have large shields at the top, scrolls, medallions and bluebells. The fire surround has a delicate and pretty border around the opening, with leaves in each of the top inner corners. There is decorative detailing below the mantel. The surround retains its original fixing lugs, one on either side, below the mantel. There are two lugs at the back of the mantel designed for sinking into the wall. The fire surround has a registered design number on the back, RD499005, dating it to 1908. The iron has been painted but there are some chips and flaking to the paint and some staining and surface rust can be seen. We can possibly have the surround shot blasted and a blacked and polished finish applied, for an extra charge. Please contact us to discuss this and for a quote. The surround is in good solid condition with some signs of age and use, as expected of reclaimed antiques. The right hand side of the mantel top has some paint losses and small knocks and the back edge of the mantel has a line with less paint from where it was fitted. The back has some surface rust, as expected. Please see pictures for condition details. The handsome fire surround is very nice example of period design and its size and appearance would make it a fantastic feature for the home.
