FI0066 A RECLAIMED ANTIQUE EARLY VICTORIAN CAST IRON FIRE INSERT

SOLD

Code: FI0066

Dimensions:

W: 56cm (22")H: 91.5cm (36")

A very pretty reclaimed cast iron fire insert dating to the early Victorian period. The insert has a lovely design, typical of the era, with an arched border featuring a repeated small circular pattern. The insert has a leaf design on the concrete fire back and retains the original front bars with decorative finial. The fire insert is of a petite size, ideal for decorative purposes in a bedroom or for a smaller reception room. The iron has been blacked and polished and the fire insert has a good finish. The back of the fire insert has a registered design kite number. The top of the kite has the letter D, the left side of the kite has a C and the right side has a 2, informing us that the fire was made on 2nd January 1852. The fire insert is in good reclaimed condition with some signs of age. The iron has some small scratches and casting marks. The three fixing holes at the top of the fire insert have got bigger through use and slightly misshapen. There is a break at the base of the iron that holds the concrete fire back in place but it is fairly stable and is not seen from the front. The back has surface rust as expected. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire has a very nice design which is delicate and pretty, suiting many interiors. The fire insert would be a lovely period item for adding character to a fireplace.
