FS0223 A VERY LARGE RECLAIMED VICTORIAN CAST IRON FIRE SURROUND

A very large and elegant, reclaimed, Victorian cast iron fire surround. The surround is of an impressive size and has a very ornate design with detailing typical of the era. The crossbar and legs have an egg and dart outer border and a delicate inner border featuring bluebells or similar. The surround has dentil moulding under the mantel. The fire surround has been sprayed in a matt satin fireproof black paint. The paint can be over sprayed with another colour, by purchaser if another colour is desired, although if using light colours then several coats will be required. We could, if preferred, apply black fire polish and buff it to achieve a shinier finish. Polishing and buffing the surround would be done at no extra charge but please let us know if you require this service at time of purchase. The back of the surround has a registered design number, RD112260, dating it to 1888. The fire surround is of a large size, ideal for a living or dining room and it could be used to surround a wood burner or fire basket or used for decorative purposes. The back of the legs have bolts so it may be possible to undo these and remove the legs for ease of transportation but this has not been tried and the old bolts may be seized, please see last picture for details. The surround is in good reclaimed condition with some small signs of age and wear. The fire surround has some small knocks and scratches from use. There are some casting marks and pitting. The back has surface rust, as expected. Please see pictures for condition details. The surround is a very fine example of Victorian design and craftsmanship and it would be a stunning period item for a home.
