FS0233 ORIGINAL GEORGIAN CAST IRON FIRE SURROUND FOR WOOD BURNER

SOLD

Code: FS0233

Dimensions:

W: 123.5cm (48.6")H: 113.5cm (44.7")

A beautiful, original, cast iron fire surround dating to the Georgian period. The surround has a Regency design with ornate acanthus leaf and scrolling vine decoration along the crossbar. The legs have differing leaf designs. The fire surround lost its original mantel due to damage and a new mantel has been professionally made for the surround. The cast iron has been blacked and polished and the surround has a nice finish. The surround is ideal for pairing with a wood burner or a large fire basket. The fire surround has no Registered Design number and this tells us that it pre-dates the early Victorian period when RD numbers were introduced. The fire surround currently has no fixing lugs as they were perhaps damaged. We can add two metal angle brackets to the fire surround, one on each side, for fixings if required. Please let us know at time of purchase if you would like the fixing brackets.

The fire surround is in good, solid antique condition but has had some damage, that has been professionally repaired, and some small signs of its considerable age. The sides of the legs had sustained some damage and they have been professionally repaired and filled. The metal plates and some filler can be seen when looking at the sides of the fire surround and at the back. There are some small knocks and chips missing from the edges of the legs. There are some small scratches and marks. The back of the surround has surface rust, as expected. Please see pictures for condition details.

The fire surround has a very pretty period look and is a fine example of Regency design. The surround is ideal for adding charm to a hearth and would make a lovely showpiece for the home.
