A reclaimed pine travel trunk / luggage box with a great deal of historic character that belonged to Naval Commander C. A Merryman of Kingsworthy. Commander Merryman was in this position from 1922 - 1935 and the box will date to this period. The lid has the commanders name painted on it and the letter D. The side of the box has a label from removals company "John Baker & Co" with instructions and a date of 1942 when the box was moved from one place to another. The box has a dark stained finish and we have waxed and polished the lid to give it a nice finish. The box lid is not hinged and simply removed and then placed back on the box to close. The box is in solid reclaimed condition with some character signs of age, as expected of antique items. There is some slight fading to the writing and box colour. The wood has some splits and cracks that do not affect its strength. The edges have screw holes and some of the holes have opened causing some chips to the box lid edges. There are some scratches, knocks and marks. The underneath of the lid and the inside of the box has some staining and holes. Please see pictures for condition details. The box has a very nice look, ideal for adding character to a space and could be used at the foot of a bed for blankets or other storage or could make a nice coffee table. The box has a nice history and character and is a desirable antique item.
