FC0181 A RECLAIMED VICTORIAN DECORATIVE CAST IRON COMBINATION FIRE

£395.00

Code: FC0181

Dimensions:

W: 75.3cm (29.6")H: 98cm (38.6")

A very pretty, reclaimed, Victorian combination fire for decorative purposes. The cast iron fire has a very ornate design with a decorative border around the mantel, wave style border under the mantel and Adam style swags, typical of the era. The fire retains its original shaped front bars, fire brick and grill. The fire has two fixing lugs, under the mantel on either side, although the left hand lug is a metal tab replacement as the original was broken. The feet have small tabs for fitting into the hearth. The iron has been blacked and polished and the fire has a nice finish. The fire has a registered design number on the back, RD2163, dating the fire to 1884.

The fire is in solid condition with some signs of age and some repaired damage and it is now suited for decorative use only. The fire was cracked under the decorative border below the mantel. The long crack that runs the length of the fire has been welded and a sealant applied. The crack is somewhat visible and the sealant can be seen at the back of the fire. The fire brick has some wear and some chips and there are some gaps between its edges and the fire. One of the tabs at the base of the feet have some chips out of it. Both sides of the fire, at the top, have had repairs to breaks and they have had a strengthening plate attached to the back and screws to the sides. There are some scratches, casting marks and pitting to the cast iron. The back of the fire has surface rust, as expected. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire has a very nice period appearance, with an abundance of character and it will make a lovely decorative item for a home.
