A very pretty, decorative, reclaimed late Victorian large combination fire. The cast iron fire has a lovely design, typical of the era, with a sunflower in the centre of the cross bar and scrolling leaves and berries. The smoke hood has an ornate design and there are leaf designs at the top of the legs. The legs have fluting. The mantel has shaped edges. The fire retains its original fire brick and it has a top plate. The fire has two fixing lugs, one on either side under the mantel, for fixings to attach the fire to the wall. The back of the fire has a registered design number, RD340898, dating the fire to 1899. The fire is in solid condition with some signs of age and wear. The iron has some small knocks, some pitting and some casting marks. The mantel screws do not sit totally flush. The front bars are replacements from the same era as the fire. There are some new bolts on either side of the fire, below the smoke hood, sprayed black. The back of the fire has some surface rust. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire has a very ornate period appearance, with an abundance of character and it will make a lovely feature for a fireplace.
PLEASE NOTE: We have a fire of the same design available for sale, with an oak mantel, please see our listing reference FC0191 for details. We also have a smaller version of the fire, reference FC0186.
