A very elegant reclaimed, Victorian tiled cast iron fire insert. The cast iron insert has a very nice appearance with an intricate border surrounding the fire opening with patterns and multi point stars. The insert has an ornate flat smoke hood with repeated X design. The insert has retained its original decorative front bars and fire brick. The inside of the fire has a curved back. On either side of the fire opening there are decorative antique tiles, in brown and cream. The tiles have been temporarily held in place and are included in the price of the fire insert. If you like the tiles then we will cut the top tiles down to fit and we will secure all the tiles in place with plaster of paris. If you would prefer to have other tiles please talk to us.

The back of the fire insert has a kite dating mark that dates the fire to 30th September 1881. The fire insert is in solid condition with some signs of age and some damage and is now suited for decorative purposes or for use very rarely. The iron has some knocks and chips to the edges and some pitting and casting marks. The iron holding the fire brick has some bulging and cracks, although the brick is still held well. The cracks are where heat will affect them and therefore the fire insert is for display purposes or very rare use only. The putty around the fire brick has some cracking within the fire opening. The tile glaze has some crazing and there are some small marks, stains and knocks to the tiles. The back of the insert has some surface rust, as expected. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire insert is a very nice reclaimed item and a great example of Victorian design. The fire insert would be a fantastic feature for a fireplace.
